The Mayor of Winchester visits the Nightshelter

The Worshipful the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr David McLean, and Mayoress visited the Nightshelter this week (10th August) to meet staff and residents and find out how the Nightshelter supports local homeless people.

Residents talked frankly to the Mayor about the challenges of being homeless, and how they are being helped to move on with their lives by the services offered at the Nightshelter. He also enjoyed a tour of the premises and saw first hand what life here is like for those who stay with us.

Michele Price, Nightshelter Manager, said: "We always enjoy welcoming new people to the Nightshelter, particularly when they take the time to sit with the residents and listen to what they have to say, as the Mayor and Mayoress did. People are usually surprised when they visit us at how homely the Nightshelter is, and by the wide range of services we offer residents. We are very much more than just a Nightshelter, and we're delighted that the Mayor and Mayoress have been able to see this for themselves."

The Mayor and Mayoress also took part in a photo shoot with staff members who were dressed in Victorian-style bathing costumes, to mark the Nightshelter's summer trip to the seaside - even though it was pouring down with rain. Read more about our annual day trip here
