Pioneer Cycling Club donation helps sock it to homelessness in Winchester

A Hampshire-based cycling club is helping to sock it to homelessness in Winchester by giving a large donation of warm woollen socks to local charity Winchester Churches Nightshelter.

The Pioneer Cycling Club from Alresford donated 54 pairs of socks to the Nightshelter courtesy of a charitable giving scheme run by ethical sock company, Jollie Socks, which donates a pair of socks to those suffering from homelessness for every pair purchased from them. Jollies allows its customers to choose which charities receive the donated socks, to keep sock giving as local to customers as possible.

Founded in 1881, the Pioneer Cycling Club recently enhanced its yellow and blue team kit with the addition of matching Jollie Socks, and chose the Nightshelter as the lucky recipient of their donation.

Michele Price, Nightshelter Manager, said: “We welcome donations of all shapes and sizes, however good quality socks are always in short supply at the Nightshelter, so we’re delighted to have received so many. The socks will be used during the winter months to help our residents keep warm when they are out and about.”

She continued: “A big thank you to the Pioneer Cycling Club and Jollie Socks for choosing to support the Nightshelter.”
