Sponsored sleepers have raised an amazing £36,000 from the Big Sleep Out at Winchester Cathedral last month. The money will be split equally between Winchester Churches Night Shelter and Trinity Winchester Day Centre.

'This is a wonderful total which will have a significant impact on the work and resources we are able to offer the homeless at both the Nightshelter and Trinity’, said Sarah Lloyd, a director at the Nightshelter. ‘Some of the new initiatives you will hear about in the coming months will be due to the tremendous support of so many involved with the Big Sleep Out. Thank you for all your generosity. We would love to welcome more volunteers to get involved in our work on an occasional or regular basis – there is so much to do! - please see the Winchester Nightshelter or Trinity websites for details or call in for a chat’.
Prizes, donated by local businesses, have been given to the top Sleep Out fundraising teams – Martin Tod’s Ten team (raising £3,776), Winchester Cathedral team, St Mary’s Church, Bentley team, and the Upper Itchen Benefice team.
Also to the top fundraising individuals - Graham and Jill Winyard, Tom Nell, William Martin from the Round Table, Hannah Tice, and special prize to Edward Moloney for being the first of 380 sleepers to register. See films, photos and comments on the Big Sleep Out website!
