Update and Homelessness Sunday

Happy New Year!

Firstly a huge thank you to all our kind volunteers who have so generously given of their time, and in several cases their money, to help us out at Christmas and allow us to open our doors every day of the year even in this terrible weather. We have been so fortunate to have people fighting the snowy conditions to get into us, we are most grateful. The one way system around Winchester is clear as are the main routes into Winchester from what I can understand. Please don’t forget that St. Cross Road is now closed for road works for a few months so please allow some extra time if you come in to us that way.

Homelessness SundayHomelessness Sunday - 31 January - This is our open House and open Day when our doors are open to all, particularly those not having visited the Nightshelter before. If you can perhaps bring along another friend with you who might be interested in helping us out in any way and so they can look around then that would be a huge benefit to us.

Our doors will open at 11.00 - 2.0 pm on Sunday 31st when everyone can "Discover More" about our work, the latest initiative, watch the latest Homelessness films, learn more about the Basics Bank and their work, our street Outreach and what people can do to help. If you can help out on the day either by helping us in the Nightshelter or by bringing some new visitors along with you to look around that would be tremendous. The Mayor of Winchester will be joining us as well.

Concurrently we are running a poetry and poster competition for adults and schools, focusing on issues surrounding homelessness. If you or someone you know might like to enter a poem or a poster then please contact the Nightshelter for further information. All poems and posters to be submitted by 25th January to the Nightshelter. The final judging will take place in the Discovery Centre where the Mayor will be talking on his year so far and presenting the prizes for the competitions.

You can download the flyer above which I would be grateful if you could advertise Homelessness Sunday, promoting it to everyone you know.

Please remember that if you have not yet finally completed and returned to us your CRB paperwork we need it all in by the end of January as volunteers will no longer be able to help us out after that date without a CRB.

With thanks to you all for all your help and support,
with best wishes,
Michele
