The Winchester Churches Nightshelter simply would not be able to operate without its volunteer force of helpers and supporters but more are always needed! Without volunteers’ help and support, the WCNS could not operate, as the current level of financial support is not sufficient to enable any more paid staff to be employed. We are therefore in real need of more people to help with cooking, cleaning, evening helping and overnighting. To find out what these jobs entail, please click here!

The Winchester Churches Nightshelter (WCNS) seeks volunteers to work alongside the employed staff.

The churches, particularly, have traditionally been a great source of volunteers as well as supplying food, meals and donations. We continuously give thanks for their support but are now finding that the much needed volunteer element is declining as several long standing volunteers moved on to new things, or are simply taking well earned rests. Replacing lost volunteers is very difficult.

We are told that there is a national shortage of volunteers in many areas of need and this may well be a factor in our situation too, but we know that the people of Winchester, particularly amongst the churches, will rise to the challenge of supporting the homeless amongst us if the need is known and explained.
