The WCNS directors are Sarah Lloyd (Chairman), Jo James, Martin Blockley, Vanessa Crookes, and Marion Fletcher (Treasurer). We recently welcomed Sandra Sawyer as a new member of our Directors team.
All directors are themselves regular volunteers at the WCNS.
Vanessa Crookes has been a director of the Winchester Churches Nightshelter for about four years, having first joined the shelter as an evening volunteer. Prior to moving back to Winchester, Vanessa had done a considerable amount of voluntary work with the “street homeless” in London, especially those with drink and drug related problems.
Vanessa is passionate and committed to the day to day work of WCNS and its overall objectives. She is also the Minute Secretary on the Committee. |

| Marion Fletcher has been involved with the Nightshelter since its very early days. She started helping with cooking and cleaning in Colebrook Street.
Marion taught Mathematics at Peter Symonds' College from 1977 to 1999, and has been treasurer of the Nightshelter since the early 1990s. She and her husband Brian are regular evening cooks and enjoy providing meals that are appreciated by the guests. Marion is also a church warden at St Barnabas Church Weeke, and treasurer for two church groups. |
|
| Jo James trained as a nurse and then a midwife. Whilst working as a midwifery lecturer she gained a PhD from the University of Southampton. She is Emeritus Professor of Midwifery Research and Development at Bournemouth University and a member of the congregation of St Andrew's with All Saints. |
|
| Sarah Lloyd (Chairman) has been a volunteer at the Winchester Churches Nightshelter since moving to Hampshire in 1995, has been a director since 2004, and Chairman since 2007. Sarah works full-time as an academic publisher, has experience within many voluntary organisations in the area, and is a member of St Michael’s church, Cheriton in the Upper Itchen Benefice. |
|
| Sandra Sawyer joined the team recently - we are working to get a profile up for her soon. |
